Though the MTF command and staff understand what Other Health Isurance (OHI) can do to benefit the facility, many patients are not "in the know." At Signature Performance, one of our objectives is to educate patients about the process and advantages of disclosing their OHI. Below is a sample of the type of information a patient would receive in person through our OHI staff at the MTF or through our letter campaign.

PUT YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE TO WORK FOR YOU

In 1986, Congress passed legislation requiring the Department of Defense to bill private health insurance companies for services provided to their customers at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs).

What it means for you

1. Regardless of any other health insurance you have, you will never be billed for treatment at the MTF.
   • The co-pays and deductible your insurance company requires for the service will never be billed to you.
   • Costs for services billed by the MTF may apply toward your deductible, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses if you later seek care through a civilian provider.
     
     
2. Money collected for reimbursements come back to the same MTF.
   • Each MTF bills and receives payment individually, so the dollars your insurance company pays toward your care will help support and improve the facility you actively use.
   • Monies collected from reimbursement allow for new equipment, facility upgrades and additional staff that would not otherwise be possible.
     
     
3. Your health insurance rates will not be affected by your claims.
   • By law, your health insurance rates cannot increase or be canceled just because a claim is filed.
     
     
4. All it takes is one form.
   • The DoD requires all non-active duty beneficiaries complete the DD Form 2569 annually or when insurance coverage changes, regardless of coverage.
   • When you submit your DD 2569, you will be issued a "Yellow Card" which will let the MTF staff know that you are in compliance.
