Does success happen by chance or can it be manufactured? Have you ever seen a person that seemed naturally gifted in some way and it appeared that they could tackle a difficult task with ease? Or have you seen the opposite, people that rise up with hard work, determination and grit?
Answering the Question
Are successful people born or made? And I would answer, neither! Instead, it is a combination of both. I believe that the most fulfilling success comes when you identify your strengths, those skills and abilities that you were born with that make you uniquely you, then take the time to understand your strengths and be intentional about using them every day. If you do the hard work of self-discovery, all of a sudden you will experience the magic of what I like to call flow. Those moments when you known you are doing the work you were born to do, time flies, and everyone around you can feel your impact.
Research backs up this feeling. Extensive Gallup research shows that people who focus on using their strengths are three times more likely to report having an excellent quality of life. And teams that focus on their strengths are 12.5% more productive.
A Strengths Journey
Two years ago, Signature Performance started a journey to look at individual strengths to understand how we can put our collective strengths to work as we strive to improve the health of our client’s business and make the lives of those we work with better. In those two years, 583 Associates have taken Gallup’s StrengthsFinder Assessment and have committed to understanding themselves better.
As a member of the Organizational Development team, I have the privilege of helping people with their journey as well as translating their strengths into high-level work performance. Thus, helping them potentially experience higher levels of success.
But here’s what we have learned during this two-year journey. Everyone is born with specific talents and strengths that are only meant for you. So, if you are looking to be more authentic, confident, and even more successful, then you need to simply BE YOU! And, if you want to take it a step further, the bravest thing you can do in life is to be your best self in service to others. When I see people make that decision and humbly use their strengths for the betterment of those around them, I see them experience unparalleled success.
At Signature Performance, our Associates and their unique talents and strengths are valued. From the on-boarding of new Associates to the wellness and well-being of every Signature team member, we are focused on providing a thriving culture where we can learn, grow, and shine together. We are dedicated to finding creative ways to enhance personal and professional growth opportunities.
