In an ever-evolving industry such as healthcare, it’s important for healthcare professionals to stay current on trends, technologies, and cultivate connections that drive meaningful innovation aimed at improving the healthcare experience for provider, payers, and patients. With the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and regulatory complexities, staying informed is essential for long-term success within the industry.

Among the nearly 2,500 military service and industry professionals who attended the 2025 Defense Health Information Technology Symposium, were members of the Signature Performance team. Check out our team's key takeaways and learnings from year's conference.

DHITS highlighted the critical role of collaboration across agencies, industry, and academia in advancing the Military Health System. The discussions underscored a clear reality: no single organization can solve these challenges alone and trusted partnerships are essential to driving innovation and delivering meaningful outcomes for the providers, beneficiary, and their families.

Attending DHITS reinforced the critical need for healthcare organizations to place cybersecurity at the forefront of their technology initiatives. As the military health community advances its digital transformation, protecting sensitive health data and ensuring mission readiness requires strong, proactive cyber strategies. From strengthening defenses against evolving threats to building resilient systems, cybersecurity is no longer optional but essential to the future of healthcare innovation.

My biggest takeaway from attending DHITS 2025 was the importance of pursuing and enabling generative AI within the DHA’s technical ecosphere. The development of a tool called “Ask SAGE” will grant DHA users access to various AI GPT models and could be available as early as January 2026. With over 7500 IT personnel and more than half of them working at MTFs, internal access to a powerful AI tool could significantly increase efficiency. DHA is still pursuing ambient technology for their providers and hope to realize greater efficiency within medical records as a result, resulting in reduced provider burnout.

Attending DHITS in Nashville was an excellent opportunity to connect with DHA leaders and industry partners who are driving the future of military healthcare. The focus on interoperability, cybersecurity, and patient-centered technology really resonated with me, as these themes align closely with the solutions we deliver at Signature. What inspired me most was seeing the collective energy around modernizing systems to better serve service members and their families. Every day was a strong reminder of why this work matters and where we can contribute meaningful impact.

While attending DHITS, I was struck by the urgency in which DHA is tackling healthcare data integration and automation. The sessions reinforced that our focus on secure, configurable, and interoperable claims and utilization management solutions aligns directly with where DHA and VA are heading. I’m grateful to be part of Signature’s mission to advance solutions that improve the lives of our military members and their families, and it’s clear that strong partnerships will be central to achieving these goals.
